Bad Vet

Observations, Of Interest, People
Dr. Hakam Singh Bhullar of Atlas Animal Hospital in East Vancouver has lost his license. The B.C. Veterinary Association held hearings into the allegations and stated that "The findings demonstrate such a high level of moral turpitude that Dr. Bhullar's conduct is deserving of the most extreme penalty, that of erasure." And what is the good doctor's explanation? Why racism of course. What other reason could there possibly be? Actually there's a number of other reasons. The association posted it's decision and cites 17 charges including "debarking" surgery that led to the death of a dog. I question why any vet would perform such surgery on an animal and support the association's decision based on that alone but there's more to the story. Dr. Bhullar owns the veterinarian clinic which…

Chilling 911 Call

Of Interest, People
55 year old single mother Charla Nash was attacked by a chimpanzee last February while helping her friend corral the 'pet' back into her house. The animal was shot and killed by police but not before it savagely mauled Ms. Nash, leaving her with horrifying injuries as some saw when she appeared on yesterday's Oprah Winfrey show. Her injuries are profound and include severe mutilation of her face and the loss of both eyes and both hands (except for one partial digit on her right hand). At first, watching Charla discuss her injuries was disturbing until her character and resilience became apparent and I almost forgot she was so profoundly disfigured. Shortly after watching the show I listened to the original 911 call placed by her friend Sandra Herold during…

The Good Ship Pays-A-Lot

The B.C.'s comptroller general released a report on Friday which listed the salaries of B.C. Ferries executives and board members. It's a doozy. Last July, ferries boss David Hahn received the astounding salary of $1,034,680! That's over one million dollars for the head of a public/private company that's really just an extension of our highway system. The B.C. Ferries part-time board chair makes $154,000 and part-time directors make up to $91,000 each. They must have answered one of those Make Big Money Part Time ads I guess. So how do a bunch of trough-feeders get to call the shots when it comes to their own salaries? Here's how... The Liberals gave the B.C. Ferries board the authority to approve their own raises then this same board decided to increase their…

We Need Our Own John & Ken

Of Interest, People, Rants
Talk radio in Greater Vancouver sucks, which is no secret to anyone that bothers to listen to the lame offerings on AM and FM stations. The few talk show hosts on the air don't offer hard-hitting, unbiased and accurate information for its listeners, unlike KFI AM in Los Angeles, California who have the on-air team of John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou on their roster. In my opinion they're what talk radio should be, especially here in Greater Vancouver. I've listened to John & Ken for years, for a short time on 1410 AM here in Greater Vancouver and now via the KFI AM stream and Podcasts on my Squeezeboxes. They've never fail to enlighten, educate and amuse, answering to no one except their listeners and residents of California. These guys…
