Some months ago I was walking my dog in the woods off David Street and came across a man and woman walking their dog in the opposite direction along the heavily traveled pathway. For a reason still unknown to me, the man panicked and lifted his mid-sized dog off the ground and started swinging the poor thing around as my dog attempted to play. I've walked my dog along the pathway for years and he did what any dog does when it meets another, sniffs and runs around to incite play. I assume the other dogs owner has had 'issues' with his poor suffering mutt and he thought a dust-up was imminent. The front page of today's Province reads 'Port Moody - LIVING IN FEAR'. Nice headline guys. The story refers to the apartment building at 651 Nootka Way which houses one of our newest residents, Jonathan Bacon. It tells the tale of the building residents that fear for their lives due to the presence of this targeted individual. My thought is they are living in one of the most secure and protected buildings in our city and probably have less to fear than I do in my detached home. Granted, I'd be uneasy if he lived next door to me but to sell my home in a building that is undergoing 24 hour security by our boys in blue seems a bit of an overreaction. Once upon a time, before the draconian smoking bylaws were enacted in British Columbia I was able to wander down to City Cigar, open my private humidor, select a fine Cuban cigar then sit and enjoy it while reading the paper or chatting with the other customers of that fine establishment. A nice, relaxing experience until the smoking by-laws in Vancouver forced City Cigar to close it's smoking lounge. I know that smoking is bad for you but I smoke about 1 cigar every month or two. I'm not addicted nor do I need to smoke and am certainly aware that others don't enjoy the smell.
