The Power of Photography

The Power of Photography

Arts, Of Interest
It's no secret that photographs can be far more powerful than moving images or the written word. Photos can be moving, disturbing, funny, sad, frightening and evoke instant emotion. Photographs are also very personal, as one person may be unaffected by an image and another moved to tears. Some of human history's most cherished and celebrated moments have been captured on film and still resonate to this day. The following gallery represents a few examples of photos that elicit that emotion and instantly tell a story much faster than film or written explanation. I found some from within a collection from The Meta Picture while others were the result of a Google images search. United Boulevard Launch

United Boulevard Launch

Arts, Business, Entertainment, Events, Food, Of Interest
Some time ago I was scouring the internet for a list of furniture stores on United Boulevard in Coquitlam, the area commonly referred to as Mecca for furniture shoppers. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a comprehensive list or even a web site to help me with my search. The tiny gears in my head started spinning, the light went on, I yelled "eureka!" then promptly forgot all about it. Until about a month ago. After many, many hours of sometimes tedious work, lots of phone calls and a slow drive through the United Boulevard area taking notes, I've just launched UnitedBoulevard.com, a site that I hope will help others looking for the same information I was and help customers find the products and services available in this fantastic shopping area. We've…

The Lynn Canyon Band visited our home a few weeks ago to record a few demo tracks and the results are below for your aural stimulation. Keep in mind that these tunes were recorded on only 8 tracks and we didn't have the luxury of a soundproof room or any of the other accoutrement associated with a modern recording studio. But I have to say that the results were better than we expected but you be the judge by clicking the play buttons below to listen. Nouveau Flamenco at its best

Arts, Music, Of Interest, People
I was poking around on Youtube the other day looking for videos about the Boss RC-2 loop station pedal and stumbled across nouveau flamenco guitarist John Gilliat. Mr. Gilliat won the Roland company's loop station competition in 2009, and for good reason. This guy kicks ass. I purchased the 2001 album Peace directly from his web site (why don't more artists do that?!?) and was amazed that he's producing top quality music from his home studio in Langley, B.C. and that I've never had the pleasure of listening to any of it. If you're looking for Jesse Cook without the snobbery or Gipsy Kings without the tight polyester pants this is the music for you. I only wish he offered embedded cover art, higher bitrate and meta data with his…
