A New Crop of Assholes

A New Crop of Assholes

Assholes, Business, Economy, Observations, People, Politics, Rants, The Law
There's been a sizable crop of contenders for the Asshole of the Week award and I've yet to see such a deserving group of recipients. These folks run the gamut from murderers to politicians (what's new) to a police chief to spoiled Asian kids. These are just four of the people that make our day-to-day lives miserable at times and contribute to our feelings of despair and hopelessness. They piss us off and make us want to smash something into tiny pieces with a huge fucking hammer. Overly dramatic? Sure. But what do we do...depend on our pathetic legal system to do sort it all out? Read on... ONE: It was reported today that Sasan Ansari, the douche that stabbed his friend 33 times outside the Hollyburn Country Club five…

The end of the HST

The end of the HST

Business, Economy, Politics, Rants
Beginning this past June 13 our Provincial Government began mailing out the much ballyhooed HST referendum voting packages. I'm one of those annoying taxpayers that hates paying for an inefficient and ineffective government, especially when it's run by a group of bumbling idiots. I especially resent the fact that we're presently being subjected to the failed Vancouver Mayoral candidate, family-centric and unelected twit Christy Clark. She's doing us all a huge favour by pushing the date of this referendum forward from the fall (as 'promised' by the previous bumbling idiot) to June. Gee...thanks Christy. You're a peach. It's always nice to have a referendum within a reasonable amount of time so we don't forget our frustration and rage when the HST was initiated by Gordon Campbell. And trying to soft-soap…

Steve’s Spaceship

Business, Of Interest, Politics, Technology
A spaceship will be landing in Cupertino, California and who else could possibly be responsible? Only the lovable Apple boss Steve Jobs of course. Steve has plans to build a new Apple campus on land, some of which was acquired from Hewlett Packard when parts of their global business went tits up. The new headquarters is destined to house 12,000 employees in a very cool donut shaped building that looks similar to a spaceship when viewed from above. The most interesting part of this story is his appearance at a recent city council meeting to plug his plans and gain the necessary permits and blessing from a town that owes him much more than the large tax revenue generated by his Apple technology behemoth. Cupertino is Steve's home town and…

Mexican Murder

Mexican Murder

Of Interest, Politics, The Law
I've been to Mexico about 10 times, vacationing on the Mayan Riviera, the western mainland (Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan) and the California Baja (San Jose, Cabo San Lucas and La Paz). Most of my trips have been great fun, aside from a few nasty digestive bugs and numerous hangovers, but things seem to be changing in Canada's most popular vacation destination. The drug wars are eating the country from the inside out and making life for residents and visitors an unholy hell. Acapulco, once called the 'Pearl of the Pacific', has seen U.S. and Canadian tourism fall by 50 percent in the past year mostly due to grisly murders in and around the city. The drug cartels have taken their war to the streets and seem fond of displaying their…
