My Cancer Moustache

My Cancer Moustache

Cancer, Health
As some of you may know, I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer last year. It was diagnosed by my family doctor (Dr. Dominick Kelly) and treated by my Urologist/Oncologist (Dr. John Warner). I lived through the experience and I'm one of the lucky males over 40 in Canada that was diagnosed and treated before it killed me. I did, however, suffer the indignity of a having more men's fingers in my butthole than most enjoy while incarcerated for an extended period in a Thai prison. But that's a whole other story. So how can I do something for others that may find themselves in the same position? I grow a moustache of course. What else? https://youtu.be/ICzLM5klfxk Yes, I'm helping others that may be diagnosed and treated for Prostate Cancer by…

A passing friend

Cancer, People
A friend and fellow employee passed away yesterday afternoon. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a relatively short time ago and succumbed to his illness. Randall Kapp worked in a different department but our jobs overlapped numerous times and we worked together on a few projects. He lived quite close to me and we both commuted on the West Coast Express train, sometimes sitting together to discuss work, computers, ipods and music. He was a nice man with a family and is one of many people that deserved a longer life. He was also a talented musician that enjoyed jamming with friends and even invited me over to participate in one of his basement sessions although my contributions were extremely limited that night. There are people we meet that fall…

Three steps

Cancer
Looking for something to do this weekend? May I suggest removing your own urinary catheter. I managed to remove mine and can now offer The Three Steps To Removing Your Own Urinary Catheter - Abridged Edition: (Click the Play buttons for aural embellishment) Step 1 - Motivation: My catheter was torturing me. The pain was akin to peeing molten lava from Hawaii's Mauna Loa volcano. [audio src="http://www.aprilroad.com/pages/audio/ahhhhh.mp3"] Step 2 - Removal: Snipping the rubber tube allowed the balloon within my bladder to deflate. All that was required was to slowly, ever so slowly pull the rubber tube including the crystallized protein encrusted end piece from the bladder, through my urethra and out the end of Mr. Johnson. Piece of cake. [audio src="http://www.aprilroad.com/pages/audio/kidscreamlong.mp3"] Step 3 - Completion: After removal you may…

Movember Moustache Madness

Cancer, Events
[caption id="attachment_1769" align="alignleft" width="300"][/caption]Jon Strocel is a man with a mission. He's growing a moustache. You're probably thinking that the common moustache isn't particularly fashion forward these days and why would Jon want to grow a moustache and why would I bother to blog about it. Good questions brainiac. Jon is growing his marginal moustache in support of the Movember moustache movement for Prostate Cancer Canada, a worthy charity and the same folks that paid for a very expensive hormone shot during my recent treatment for prostate cancer. Here's a message to all the people that read my blog: Please support Jon and in so doing, support Prostate Cancer research and treatment. Chances are good that you, a loved one, a friend or family member may require their help in…
