80 + 80

80 + 80

Education, Observations, People
I was at my bank today, waiting in the ubiquitious ATM lineup while two teenage girls completed their banking transaction. These were two upper middle-class girls in the 15-17 age range, well dressed and wearing the latest in fashion and accessories. One was pressing the buttons while the other injected various comments and instructions during the complex process of withdrawing funds from a bank account (with a balance of $540.00, this relevation revealed by the button-pusher to everyone in the lineup). During the transaction the button-pusher asked the wingman (wing-BFF?) "What's 80 plus 80"? The friend stared back blankly as the gears meshed and their brains tried to comprehend this staggering calculation. Neither could come up with an answer. I'm serious. Neither could add 80 and 80 together and come…

A Suprising Outcome

Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas announced second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges against two L.A. County police officers for the beating death of Kelly Thomas. Officer Manuel Ramos was charged with one count each of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the July 5, 2011 confrontation. Police Cpl. Jay Cicinelli was charged with one count each of involuntary manslaughter and excessive force. This is a suprising outcome as most were expecting a coverup of sorts and each of the officers involved to receive minor charges for their part in the beating. But D.A. Rackauckas, after much anticipation, announced the charges on September 22, 2011 and suggested there may be more charges against other officers involved. He said a review of the evidence showed Thomas was acting 'in self-defense, in…

A New Crop of Assholes

Assholes, Business, Economy, Observations, People, Politics, Rants, The Law
There's been a sizable crop of contenders for the Asshole of the Week award and I've yet to see such a deserving group of recipients. These folks run the gamut from murderers to politicians (what's new) to a police chief to spoiled Asian kids. These are just four of the people that make our day-to-day lives miserable at times and contribute to our feelings of despair and hopelessness. They piss us off and make us want to smash something into tiny pieces with a huge fucking hammer. Overly dramatic? Sure. But what do we do...depend on our pathetic legal system to do sort it all out? Read on... ONE: It was reported today that Sasan Ansari, the douche that stabbed his friend 33 times outside the Hollyburn Country Club five…

A Very Sad Life

A Very Sad Life

Observations, Of Interest, People, The Law
Kelly Thomas was a 37 year-old homeless man suffering from schizophrenia and roaming the streets of Fullerton, California. According to locals he wasn't aggressive, belligerent or a ongoing nuisance other than he was homeless and committed a variety of petty crimes to survive. Kelly Thomas was also the son of a former Orange County Sheriff's deputy. On July 5, 2011 Fullerton, California police responded to a call regarding an individual spotted breaking into cars. They attempted to arrest Kelly Thomas but discovered the 135 pound homeless man wasn't going without a fight. Six Fullerton police officers joined the pile-on, pummeling the living shit out of Mr. Thomas in plain view of spectators. Kelly's injuries were substantial and he died in hospital five days later. Fullerton police have been silent about…
