Dog poop

Life in Port Moody
I give up. What's the sense of picking up your dog's poop then throwing the bag containing the poop back on the ground, leaving it there for someone else to carry to the nearest garbage receptacle? Absolutely none!! I tend to pick up bits of garbage during my morning walk with Benjamin and have been coming across more and more plastic bags containing dog droppings. I've picked up a few and other look a bit too scary to attempt retrieval without the risk of contamination. Why should I be picking up my neighbour's dog poop? Who do they think will pick it up? Well let me be the first to tell them that IT'S YOUR NEIGHBOURS THAT HAVE TO PICK IT UP!! You're dropping garbage in our yards and we're…

When to get involved?

Life in Port Moody
For the first time since moving to my neighbourhood five years ago I heard my neighbours fighting. As I walked my dog up our street I could hear shrieks and screams coming from a house just a few doors down from mine. All couples have disagreements, some more vocal than others but this didn't sound like a simple disagreement. This was flat out screaming, wailing and shouting. Which leads to the question "When should you get involved"? I considered knocking on their door and checking to see that things were not getting out of hand but there's always the fear of appearing to be a neighbourhood busy-body or confronting a knife-wielding mad-man. I had a short chat with another neighbour shortly after and asked him if he had heard the…

Me, my dog and the bear

Life in Port Moody
My good buddy Benjamin and I went for our usual morning walk last week and came across a new neighbour. We usually walk up our road, cut into a back path and take a shortcut through the woods. Benjamin paused as we entered the woods as is his morning ritual, and did what dogs do in the morning during walks through the woods. I tend to evaluate his poops and make a decision to scoop or bury based on location, soil conditions and the availability of a good stick to dig a large hole to ensure anyone wandering through won't suffer the indignity of stepping in his droppings. The location was off the path, the soil conditions were perfect (soft and easy to dig) and I located the perfect digging…

Shining the light

Life in Port Moody
So Dennis Karbovanec has packed his bags and left Port Moody and rumour has it that Jonathan Bacon may be close behind. This tells me that public scrutiny is considerably more effective than our justice system and we should shine the light on more of our questionable members of society. The police do their best to arrest and/or control their movements but it's having their rocks lifted and society peering at them with bright lights is what obviously does the trick. The ability to do 'business' while being observed by the police and residents affects their income and ability to buy the flashy cars, club life and clothing that's such a staple of their existence. This is obviously how we, as a community, can drive these undesirables out and let…
