Luge Death at Olympics

The games here in Vancouver hadn’t even begun before Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili was fatally injured this afternoon after being flung from the track during a practice run at Whistler Mountain. A very sad beginning to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games to say the least.

There is an evil foreboding as you watch the young man naively don his helmet, clueless that he will be racing to a violent and brutal death. Such a tragic and foolish way to die. Such a waste. Analogies are made between the Olympics and war. We see one here.
